Short Description

Indulge the senses and immerse the soul, with a weeklong stay on the island of Crete. Enjoy three authentic cooking classes, and visits to local artisan producers of wine, oils, cheese & bread; all the while living as a local in a Cretan cottage on the island.

Crete is known for a lot of wonderful things, but it is primarily has the reputation as a world-class leader of hospitality and products such as honey, olive oil and herbs. This fertile land of Crete has lent itself to this week long dream itinerary based around the nutritious and delicious Cretan cuisine.

If you want to feel your stress melt away, this is for you.The most perfect warm and inviting host will make you feel right at home, the second you arrive. Her smile and laughter is infectious, her hospitality is genuine and you feel as though you are staying with friends.

Day One (Monday) Arrival & Welcome
You will be welcomed upon arrival at Chania international airport or the local seaport and transferred to your accommodation in the heartland of Crete in Vamos, near Geourgioupolis. Enjoy welcome drinks followed with some free time to settle in to your home for the next week. Tonight’s dinner will feature contemporary Cretan cuisine and will be served by your hosts at a Vamos tavern.

Day Two (Tuesday) Cooking Class
After breakfast during your free morning you will have an opportunity to take a stroll around the charming village of Vamos or even take a bus or taxi to Georgioupolis. Lunch on your own, then spend the afternoon in the kitchen. Enjoy some time with Chef Koula in the Cretan countryside with a glass of wine in your hand, cooking at ease in our “kitchen” and then devour the delicious foods you have just created! The lesson will take place at an Old Olive Mill.

Day Three (Wednesday) Cheese & Bread Making
Today, a cheese and bread making activity is organised. In the morning, you will go to a cheese dairy farm of two brothers who are the most authentic cheese producers of the area. All the products are handmade using an old, all traditional process which utilizes the “kazani”, the fireplace. Also, you will see how the Cretan bread is made using the old methods. Greek bread has always played an important part in the Greek diet. Here you will taste it fresh, straight from the fire. Lunch on your own, then a free afternoon for personal activities (suggestions : you can go and relax to the beach in Kalives or trip to the beautiful town of Rethymno)

Day Four (Thursday) Olive Oil, Wine Tasting & Cooking
After a leisurely start today, we head to the local olive oil press. Here the specialist will demonstrate and explain the intricate process of  producing the island's oil. The taste of pure local oil is followed by the explanation of secrets of Cretan virgin olive oil. We continue on to a winery where you will be introduced to the passion for Cretan wine via a winery tour and tasting. The tasting will be served with some traditional meze, while the hosts stay on hand to answer questions.

In the afternoon, another delicious moment will start with your second Cretan cooking class waiting for you. You will have for dinner the dishes you prepared with your chef.

Day 5-Friday – FOOD TOUR IN CHANIA
We will take you this morning to the famous town of Chania for an amazing Food Tour. This food tour combines a walking tour through some of the most picturesque parts of Chania while stopping to taste authentic traditional foods at shops along the way! You will enjoy a unique blending of local food culture, tradition and history as you explore Chania with all your senses! After this, free time in the town where you can take the opportunity to do quality shopping or to have lunch in a great tavern in the port or in the narrows streets.

Day 6-Saturday – FREE DAY
Free day for your activities. There is an optional walking guided tour you can do in the morning. It is a walk in the mountain meeting history and nature. We can suggest and organise different wonderful options upon your request; for instance excursion in the south of Crete in the Lybian Sea, or to Samaria Gorges or to Knossos Palace in Heraklion.

Day 7-Sunday – LAST DAY WITH A COOKING CLASS
Free morning for personal activities ( suggestion : Kournas Lake NEAR Georgiopoulis)
In the afternoon, last cooking class. You will have the pleasure for the last time to see our legendary chef at the Old Olive Mill and enjoy cooking with her. After the class a tremendous goodbye dinner will be offered.
