Short Description

This private five day tour combines the best of beaches and wines. Departing from Montevideo and finishing in Punta del Este you can enjoy a relax paced exploration of southern Uruguay.

While the central area represents the past and present of Uruguayan wine, the East area may well be the future. No other region has made the same investment in its development, and it’s easy to see why Maldonado has become such a hot spot for Uruguayan wine. The gorgeous 340 km sweep of beaches, dunes, forest and lagoons, stretching from the North East of Montevideo to the Brazilian border, is one of Uruguayan national treasures. Near the border with Brazil, amid wide open landscapes and the virgin beaches of the Rocha region, are found abandoned hilltop fortresses and shipwrecks that offer a silent testimony to our past, when Spain and Portugal were struggling over control of the new continent. The combination of new and trendy vineyards with high end resorts makes the East region in a must see all year round.

Day One
After breakfast we will head to Punta del Este to visit the “Bodega Casa Grande”. This small family owned vineyard is located on the outskirts of Montevideo and offers a very cozy environment to enjoy tasting its main wines. Around noon, we will continue our tour to “Viñedos de los Vientos” where we’ll have an exquisite homemade lunch, served with the principal wines of the winery. After lunch the owner himself will give us a tour, telling us all about the history of the Bodega.

Day Two
Breakfast and then a guided city tour of Punta del Este. We’ll visit the main attractions of the city, like the main avenue “Juan Golero”, the handicraft market, the yacht marina, the “Nuestra señora de la Candelaria” church, the lighthouse, the beaches and the residential areas such as “the Golf”, “San Rafael”, “beverly hills” and the “Cantegril”. After crossing the famous wavy bridge of “La Barra”, we’ll continue our trip towards “Jose Ignacio”. On our way, we’ll stop and visit the well known seaside resort “La Barra” and its neighbour “Manantiales” with their beautiful “Montoya” and “Bikini” beaches. We’ll pass through many other small beach towns and finally get to famous “Jose Ignacio”. We’ll take time to enjoy this charming resort, taking a look at the lighthouse and stroll around the center to relax in one of the many great restaurants and cafes. The rest of the day is free time before returning to Punta del Este.

Day Three
We’ll have breakfast at the hotel and then begin our day in the “Garzon’s hills”, where we’ll enjoy an exclusive olive oil tasting. It’s a unique and unmissable experience for nature lovers and wine lovers alike, to discover the secrets of the preparation of a top quality extra virgin olive oil. We’ll take a tour of the olive grove and of the workshop where you’ll learn the origin of this product and its whole preparation process, while enjoying the unique scenery. A tasting of wines and oils follows, served with a selection of cheeses and breads. A few kilometers away we will visit the “Bodega Garzon” where you’ll enjoy a stunning view over the vineyard while learning about the area and the vines they developed. Then you’ll visit the winery and get to know more about the production while testing three wines.

Day Four
Breakfast and free day to enjoy the beach and the city.

Day Five
After breakfast we’ll take the winding Route 12 that leads us to “Bodega Altos de la Ballena”. There, the winemaker will explain everything that you need to know about the vine, and then we will enjoy a tasting of three types of wines served with bread and cheese with a spectacular panoramic view over the “Laguna del Sauce” as a backdrop. Continuing on, we’ll visit “Bodega Viña Eden” with another exclusive tasting. This bodega benefits from an exceptional location on the panoramic Route 12 which is born in the Atlantic and opens up towards this mountainous area. An idyllic place to have a unique experience! The mineral nature of the soils, mixed with the oceanic influence of the Atlantic, generate the ideal conditions for the creation and sustainable production of wines of a unique style. We’ll then return to Punta del Este to spend the night.
