Spain, Valencia – Food & Wine in Valencia

The Old City

After breakfast we will go on a walking tour of the old city, seeing Valencia’s historic highlights, like the cathedral, the Silk Exchange (15th century), and the Mercado Central, Europe’s largest fresh produce market and a beautiful Modernist style building of the early 20th century.
We end our walk at a small cooking school where you will be able to assist in the preparation of your own lunch. Learn to make the famous Valencian paella! With starters, dessert and drinks included.
Afternoon visit to the Lladró factory (famous Valencian handmade porcelain figurines.
Evening: tapas dinner followed by live Flamenco show.

The Modern City

Today we go by bike through the old (dry) riverbed, now the biggest city park of Spain, to see the modern, futuristic part of Valencia, the “City of Arts and Science”, designed by the famous (and controversial) Valencian architect Calatrava – a MUST SEE in Valencia.
We continue to the port area, to see where the America’s Cup and F1 GP races were held, and then on to the beach.
We’ll have a drink at the beach, and a bus will pick us up (Bikes will be picked up from the beach bike shop) to go to the Albufera Lake, 20kms south of the city, for lunch and then a boat trip on the lake. The Albufera Lake and the surrounding rice fields and dunes forest is a top location for birdwatching (nature reserve).
Dinner will be at one of Valencia’s leading Michelin starred restaurants.

Wine Tour to Utiel-Requena

After breakfast we pack our bags and take them with us to go to one of the wine regions around Valencia, for a winery visit and wine tasting; your guide is a vinologist/sommelier specialised in Valencian wines. We will start with a visit to a 10th century wine cave in Requena, where we will do a first wine tasting. From Requena we go to the winery, where they will show us around the vineyards and the cellars, following the wine making process from grape to wine. Of course followed by a wine tasting!
After a lunch of the local gastronomy we will go back direction Valencia to drop you off at the airport.
