Short Description

From the steep slopes of Montalcino to the soft hills that run from Bolgheri towards the Mediterranean sea, discover two famous wines, and in so doing embrace the heart of Tuscany and sample the best of its great wines: Nobile, Brunello, Chianti, Vernaccia, Bolgheri and Sassicaia

This small group, wine-focussed tour is led by a wine professional. Together you will visit the most famous of wine villages and hilltop villages including Montepulciano, Pienza, Siena and San Gimignano.

Your tour features two authentic cooking classes which will help you become more familiar with the local cuisine.

There will be visits to historical wine cellars and fascinating etruscan tombs. And of course you will be treated to exquisite wine dinners and tastings along the way.

Day 1 - 21 September 2019
ARRIVAL IN ROME
Arrival in Rome. Supper and night on your own. Arrival transfer and Rome hotel can be added at your request.

Day 2 - 22 September 2019
MONTEPULCIANO AND ORVIETO
Pick up at your hotels and transfer to Orvieto, one of the nicest town in Umbria and famous for its wines – Visit of a carved in the tufo rock cellar with wine tasting lunch – Tour of town and visit the superb Duomo. Transfer to your villa in Montepulciano – supper and overnight

Day 3 - 23 September 2019
PIENZA AND MONTEPULCIANO - CHEESE MAKING AND VINO "NOBILE"
Start the day with a visit to a Pecorino cheese factory to see how it is made and try it when it is still young and soft or when it is hard and savoury, but mellowed by honey. After lunch on the premises, take a stroll through Pienza the town that is a UNESCO protected site, from the walls of which you enjoy a breathtaking view of the “Valdorcia”. Transfer to Montepulciano and stop for a wine-tasting aperitif at one of the historic wineries of the town. Back at your villa for supper.

Day 4 - 24 September 2019
HEADING TO MONTALCINO - BRUNELLO PRODUCERS
Transfer to San Biagio (the Church at Montepulciano foothill). Have some free time in town then meet on the main square to attend a wine tasting/lunch at Cantine de Ricci. The historical cellar is amazing. Have some more free time (Montepulciano has many enticing boutiques!! and is one of the best places to buy souvenirs and presents) – We will then reach our new accommodation, on the southern slopes of Montalcino. Podere Brizio. Welcome drink, supper and night.

Day 5 - 25 September 2019
BAGNO VIGNONI AND COOKING CLASS
Drive to Sant Antimo Abbey, a magical place which is said to have been founded by the emperor Charles Magne. The abbey is on the way to yet another Brunello secret producer who will greet us in his working clothes. At his place, we will be treated to a barrel tasting. On our way to Bagno Vignoni we will stop for lunch in the charming hamlet of Rocca d’Orcia then on to our cooking class and supper in a private house. Back at Podere Brizio for the night

Day 6 - 26 September 2019
SIENA AND CHIANTI CLASSICO
Take a break from wine and take a guided visit of Siena: reach the Duomo strolling through the back alleys of this medieval town, have a coffee on the Piazza del Campo, the famous square where the Palio is run. If you have the strength, climb to the top of the Torre del Mangia for an aerial view of the town; lunch at Enoteca Nazionale which has a great collection of Italian wines. Free time in Siena then transfer to your villa in the heart of Chianti; check-in and supper at the villa.

Day 7 - 27 September 2019
VOLPAIA CASTLE AND PAIRING LUNCH
Transfer to Radda in Chianti and short tour of the town then transfer to Volpaia winery one of the largest estate in Chianti. Lunch will be in a small restaurant in Volpaia. Back at your villa and rest before a supper at the villa restaurant.

Day 8 - 28 September 2019
SAN GIMIGNANO, VERNACCIA AND LUNCH IN A FARM
Transfer to San Gimignano through winding Chianti roads. Visit this beautiful town. Have a late wine tasting-lunch at Torraccia di Chiusi. Transfer to your villa along the coast with an eventual stop in Volterra. Welcome drink; supper and night at the villa.

Day 9 - 29 September 2019
BOLGHERI & SUPERTUSCANS
To have a closer view of the coast we will first go to the Baratti harbour then on to Populonia. We will have a wine tasting lunch at Bolgheri castle and some free time to tour this charming medieval town. Back at your hotel for a rest before going for our last meal together with pairing wines (you will be able to taste Sassicaia, possibly the most expensive wine in Italy)

Day 10 - 30 September 2019
YOUR DEPARTURE FROM PISA
Transfer to Pisa or Florence airport – (On request, before departure we can tour the Ornellaia estate and taste their wines ).
