Cerasuolo di Vittoria Wineries & Noble Ragusa

After breakfast meet your private driver and head off for a day of wine tasting at some excellent wineries that produce the famous Cerasuolo di Vittoria (unique DOCG in Sicily): Valle dell’Acate and COS.

At Valle dell’Acate you will be welcomed by Giovanni, the sommelier, who will introduce you to the history of the winery visiting their “museum of the wine”. This is a magic place where you can learn about the ancient techniques including “torchi” and basins, before enjoying a wine tasting surrounded by old barrels.

Next stop will be COS winery. The Azienda Agricola COS works with biodynamic principals of agriculture using the ancient traditional techniques to cultivate vines. Very interesting and unique is the ageing of some wines in ancient amphoras! Visit the winery, and enjoy a lunch with wine tasting and food pairing.

Then, return to Ragusa for a guided tour to discover Ragusa Ibla, UNESCO World Heritage town. The city centre with its wonderful Baroque monuments and astonishing sights around each corner will delight. Baroque Discovery & Olive Oils

After breakfast, meet with your private driver and guide for a visit to Modica, UNESCO World Heritage listed, and also called the town of 100 churches. The St George’s dome is a masterpiece of baroque architecture in Sicily, as well as St Peter’s church and the baroque noble palaces on the main street.

But Modica is also the “the town of chocolate”, the only place in Italy where they still make chocolate in Aztec tradition. With more than 150 years of activity, the Dolceria Bonajuto is the oldest chocolate factory in Sicily and makes this chocolate recipe without milk, according to the Aztec way, which was brought to Sicily by the Spanish soldiers in the 17th Century.

A visit to this factory is an opportunity to see how the chocolate is made and “beaten”; then it’s your turn to enjoy a tasting.

Your day continues on to the exclusive Maralina Winery, famous for its bio vegan wines, where the owner, Federica, will introduce you to the winery and then lead you through a wine tasting with food pairing.

Then enjoy your afternoon in Marzamemi, an enchanting little fishing village with the “Tonnara”, a very ancient and important economic tradition that you can experience by visiting one of the tuna fish factories of the village. You also get to taste their typical products.

Return to the hotel in Ragusa. Dinner at leisure.

Unique wines with labels designed by top Italian designers!

Agrigento, Greek Heritage & Planeta Winery

Breakfast, and then depart with your driver, headed for the Valley of Greek Temples. This majestic Greek architecture has survived through the centuries. About 1km long, on rocky crests, you walk with your private guide through the Concordia, Hera, Zeus, and Dioscuri temples, and it seems to breathe the atmosphere of daily life in ancient Akragas, the Greek name for today’s Agrigento.

For lunch you visit the highly acclaimed Planeta winery, one of the best wineries of Sicily. The Planeta family focuses on innovation and modernity but never forgets the historic and traditional interpretation of wine: on the one hand linked to the oldest Sicilian traditions of wine making with its heritage of indigenous varieties, and on the other hand an interest in those international grape vines which have best adapted to these territories. The company has vineyards and estates all over Sicily. Excellent is also their olive oil, that gained many awards and will be tasted with the wines with food pairing.

Return to Agrigento and spend the evening at leisure.

Tenuta Gorghi Tondy Winery, Salt Pan & Medieval Erice

Breakfast and hotel check-out. This morning you will visit the Tenuta Gorghi Tondi winery where Annamaria and Clara Sala are proud fourth generation winemakers, who pay close attention to their environmental heritage. The estate is inside the WWF Gorghi Tondi and Preola Lake Nature Reserve.

Looking out across the horizon, rows of vines stretch over 130 hectares, and are nurtured by the sea breeze. They surround four small lakes, formed in a karst low-lying landscape where the rain has, over time eroded the soil. It’s not only stunning, but gives the grapes a unique quality that only this terroir can offer. Enjoy a wine tasting in this amazing space!

Next we depart for Erice, the most important medieval town of Sicily that stands on the top of San Giuliano Mountain. The road towards Erice is characterised by the “Salt Pans”, that were developed during medieval times and offer a truly unique landscape. They are still operational today and piles of harvested salt lie dramatically across the landscape.

Upon arrival in Erice, meet your guide for a walking tour founded by the Elymian people. During the tour, stop at Maria Grammatico’s pastry shop to taste typical Sicilian pastries.

In the afternoon, depart to Palermo. Check in. Evening at leisure.

Overnight Palermo

Meals B, T(Wines), T(Pastries)

Breakfast. Today you explore Palermo, a city rich in history, culture, art, music and food. View the Romanesque, Gothic and Baroque churches, palaces and buildings. The “Palazzo dei Normanni” with the “Cappella Palatina” is the most ancient European Royal Palace and today the seat of the Sicilian Government. It was the first seat of the Sicilian Kings and then of Emperor Frederick II in the Middle Ages.

The wonderful Cathedral with tombs of the Sicilian Kings stands majestic in the city centre and tells you about the greatness of the island in the past centuries.

Walk through the lively stalls of the food market to discover Sicilian street food, along with the colours and smells of an ancient town rich in history.

Lunch will be in a typical street food osteria, where you can enjoy the good Sicilian traditional homemade food and the renowned “cassata siciliana”, the most famous Sicilian dessert with ricotta cheese.

In the afternoon, the tour continues to the Castle of Zisa, the summer residence for the Norman kings, the San Giovanni degli Eremiti Church, the wonderful Massimo and Politeama theatres and the “Quattro Canti” square.

Evening at leisure.

Stunning Monreale & Ceuso Winery

Breakfast then depart with your driver to Monreale’s Dome, the so called “masterpiece of the Middle Age”, with its wonderful mosaics that represent scenes from the Bible. Impressive, on the apse vaults the Christ Pantocrator mosaic works and the ancient monastery’s cloister. And enjoy the stunning view over Palermo, too.

Your day continues to the awarded Ceuso winery for wine tasting with food pairing, in the land of the ancient Elymians, one of the first inhabitants of the island. Here the brothers Melia, coming from generations of vine growers, welcome you to their “baglio” in a friendly atmosphere.

From the very beginning the indigenous varietal Nero d’Avola took pride of place, but this did not prevent experimentation and research on the growing potential of the best non-native varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. Ceuso’s philosophy is respect for the land and the vineyard’s natural cycles.

The ageing of the wines is in glass-lined cement vats, and that guarantees the production of unfiltered wines that hold firmly onto their Mediterranean roots and express the terroir of Segesta.

And if you want to take a final picture of a Sicilian masterpiece, you can stop at the Segesta Temple (4th century BC), one of the best preserved Greek temples in the world, and not far from the Ceuso winery. Then back to Palermo. Farewell Dinner in the starred Michelin restaurant “Bye Bye Blues” in Mondello, by the sea. (Private transfer from the hotel to the restaurant and back).
