Short Description

This is a region to be discovered and enjoyed: rolling, vineyard covered hills, with the white peaks of the Alps as a backdrop; this is the cradle of the ‘slow food’ movement, and we meander along the famous Barolo, Barbaresco, and Gavi vineyards. Taste the many regional delicacies: the spicy ‘Bagna Cauda’, fine chocolates, an infinite variety of cheeses and of course, the king of this area, the famous white truffle of Alba. The lands of the Langhe and Monferrato, still to a great extent, are unknown to many, and are quite special. Here you will experience great food, excellent wines and you will stay in many unique accommodations.

The highlights of this week in Piedmonte and Liguria are many, but you can be sure that quality wine tasting in Barolo, Alba and Le Langhe will feature strongly. Also included are cooking classes, showcasing Piedmonte cuisine, truffle hunting and the obligatory wine tastings and wine paired dinners. Rounding out your week, is a visit to the spectacular Cinque Terre coast.

This small group, one-off departure will have you talking for years to come. Accompanied by your local guide throughout the week, you can be sure this food and wine tour will tick plenty of boxes!

Check in at the hotel and relax a little in your new surroundings . Mid afternoon, will be your first glass of wine at “ Enoteca Regionale del Barolo”. Here you will have an initial taste of Barolo and be introduced to the peculiarities of this small territory that according to the type of soil produces, within a few km, very different, though all superb, wines.
Your accommodation Da Felicin is an historical mansion in the centre of Monforte*, famous for Barolo wine and for white truffle. Dinner at your hotel.

Day 2 - 20 May 2019
The Langhe area has an amazing landscape of vineyards with the Alps as background. Remaining in the area wine-tasting & meeting with the producer are mandatory; we will start the day with a leisurely walk among the vineyards to reach Barolo, the small town which is the cradle of the famous wine of the same name. We will have a tour of the historical cellars where it all began. After a wine-tasting and lunch we will transfer to Alba, the main town of the area, where we enjoy some free time to explore the centre of the town and its many boutiques. (If timing is short because lunch has been 'long', the visit to Alba can be done the next day). Later in the afternoon, a short ride will take us to the Verduno Castle which belonged to the Italian royal family where we will be introduced to the cooking secrets of Piedmont cuisine and have dinner with what we prepared. Back to Monforte for the night.

Day 3 - 21 May 2019

After a leisurely breakfast, we will be driven to La Morra, a small village from where one can enjoy a breathtaking view over the vineyard covered hills; we will then visit Marengo winery, one of the 6 producers of Barolo “ Brunate” made with the harvest of a single vineyard. It is a modern, family-owned winery. A short ride will take us to Neive, a small village selected among the most beautiful boroughs of Italy. Lunch will be on the terrace of a nearby restaurant overlooking the Barbaresco vineyards. On the way to our next accommodation we will stop to peek inside the Enoteca Regionale of Barbaresco which is located inside an ancient church. Check in at Tenuta la Romana and relax in the countryside by their appealing swimming pool. Dinner at the hotel. Tenuta la Romana

Canelli, the town next to our accommodation, is famous for producing some of the best “Spumante”, the Italian Champagne.
