Less than 250 kilometers southeast of the capital Prague, sprawling with quaint villages and hundreds of lush, green vineyards, this is undoubtedly a great undiscovered wine region with a rich wine heritage. Wine growing in this region has been reliably traced back to the Roman Empire period – the 2nd century AD.

Ideally situated north of the Alps and at the Western edge of the Carpathian Mountains, the region benefits from a cooler climate, which excels at white wine production. Spreading over more than 16.5 thousand hectares, the region includes 96% of the country's vineyards.

The quality can be outstanding, especially the Moravian whites. Mikulov has certainly the highest concentration of wine cellars for tastings, as well as a fairytale chateau on a hill overlooking the town. Like a guardian, the Pálava Hills, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve, seem to be carefully watching the vines.

Highlights of the Tour:
. Soak in the views of the Pálava vineyards during a relaxing ride in a luxury minivan
. Visit six top wineries and enjoy wine tastings with their winemakers
. Be enchanted by the beauty of the historical city of Mikulov
. Take a walk in the prestigious gardens of Lednice-Valtice castle
. Experience a great picnic in the middle of the vineyards
. Enjoy leisurely lunches at charming local restaurants
. Learn about wine making from your experienced guide

Mikulov Castle, Vineyard Picnic & Private Dinner

Pick up from your nominated hotel in Prague by an English-speaking driver and guide, who is very knowledgeable in wine and the heritage of the region. Private vehicle transfer to Moravia region (duration 3h).

Your first stop will be at one of the most renown wineries in the Czech Republic. There, the wine producer and our wine expert will introduce you to the vineyards of Pálava Hills and the wines that are produced in this region.

Following, we will enjoy a picnic lunch in the vineyards facing the Pálava Hills with a great glass of wine or two.

After a relaxed lunch, we drive onwards to the beautiful and historical city of Mikulov, the capital of wine in the Moravian region. Its urban conservation area belongs to UNESCO Czech heritage.

Enjoy Mikulov’s main sights – highlighted by an imposing and majestic chateau perched on a rocky outcrop. A private guided tour of the castle will be followed with a visit of the Regional Museum featuring the exhibition “Wine through the centuries”.

The grand finale of the chateau tour will take place at its cellar, where you will see a remarkable giant barrel dating from 1,643, which is one of the largest in Europe with a volume of approximately 135 000 bottles.

After the tour, taste award winning Czech wines in the castle’s ancient cellar
presented by the winemaker himself.

Next, you’ll have time to explore the city of Mikulov or to enjoy some refreshments at a charming local bistro.

From Mikulov we move to another winery, well-known for its beautiful views. This final stop is not only reputed for its excellent wines, but also for its stunning modern architecture, and is located in the middle of its vineyards.

This winery is also our first night’s accommodation. Besides the regular wine tasting, you will gain an insight into the art of wine making and have the unique opportunity to visit their winery production hall.

At the end of the day, enjoy a private dinner featuring seasonal and local produce with beautiful surrounding views of the hills and vineyard.

Wine Tastings, Typical Lunch & Vineyard Walk

After a leisurely breakfast and around mid morning, take a short walk through the vineyards to a neighbouring winery, which belongs to the Czech Republic’s best wineries. They are particularly well known as a key producer of Rieslings and the local grape variety Pálava.

Your tasting this morning will take place on a terrace overlooking the beautiful vineyards and Pálava Hills, followed by a private visit to the inside of the winery.

Our next culinary stop will include lunch in a charming restaurant, which takes us back in time to the days of our great-grandmothers. Located in a beautiful small village featuring traditional architecture and landscapes, you will indulge in traditional Czech cuisine and homemade dishes made from freshly sourced produce.

Next on the menu is a visit to a winery, which is particularly well-known for its great red and sparkling wines. Uncover the story behind the production of sparkling wines and, naturally, a tasting afterwards.

Our subsequent visit will present a very special boutique winery, which follows the true historical traditions of Moravian viticulture. It contributes to landscape maintenance and its protection, while respecting an ecologically sound approach to producing original wines of superior quality.

This beautiful winery will be our accommodation for the second night and your guides will take you on an educational journey of your wine senses. Together you will learn more about the delicate senses in wine and explore various olfactory notes in wines. Of course, you will be able to apply your newly gained knowledge during a wine tasting.

Depending on the weather, we will have a picnic dinner in the vineyards, or dine at a local restaurant.

Hike or Bike & Lednice Castle

After a delicious breakfast at the winery, we will return to Mikulov. It is from here that we will hike or bike to another landmark – Holly Hill, (363m).

This is part of the Pálava Hills and the hike, which is a popular pilgrimage, will feature a series of beautiful chapels.

If you prefer biking to hiking you may opt for a bike tour. There are 11 vineyard cycling trails in the region of South Moravia with a total length of around 1200km.

Close to Holly Hill is an historic Baroque vicarage, which has been transformed into a stunning garden restaurant. It’s extremely popular for its unique atmosphere, its views and its fantastic organic food, sourced directly from local farmers. The meals are based on Czech traditions and inspired from a 100-year-old cookery book. This is a unique gourmet experience.

Our final destination will be Chateau Lednice, where a private guide will walk you through the Garden of Europe in the Lednice-Valtice Complex. The castle is one of the most-visited monuments in the Czech Republic, and is UNESCO listed.

After this final tour we will embark on our transfer back to Prague.
