Armenia
The very foundations of winemaking are said to have formed in the small country of Armenia. Archaeological evidence of wine production dates back over 6,000 years, and there are references in historic texts (including the bible) to vineyards in the region. Whilst the making of table wines mostly went on hiatus during Soviet Rule, winemaking picked up again in the 1990s and Armenian wine is now making its mark on the international wine scene. The country celebrates its rich wine history with an annual Yerevan Wine Days Festival, held in the capital in June, but Armenia entices year round.
