Food and Wine Travel in Melbourne Set to Bring A Scandinavian Culinary Escapade to Australia
Melbourne – 10th of November of 2010 Food and Wine Travel is now bringing a Nordic and Polar Food Adventure to the Australian travel market. True to Food and Wine Travel’s philosophy, the local gastronomic delights are the focal point of the total experience. The adventure is unique, as local Scandinavian chefs have not only created this itinerary, they also host it.
The Nordic region has long been known for its distinctive cuisine based on ingredients found in the wild, think oily fish such as herring and salmon, berries, whole grains, vegetables and lean red meat but recently the fusion with exotic herbs and spices, creativity and presentation has liberated and amplified the Nordic style of cooking.
Scandinavia now boasts the world’s best restaurant (Noma in Copenhagen,Denmark) and Michelin-starred restaurants are popping up everywhere. The culinary development hasn’t gone unnoticed with Nordic chefs claiming a number of podium places at the Bocuse d’Or, the European Cuisine Championship.
The Nordic and Polar Food Adventure visits no less than 5 countries in 22 days: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, the Faroe Islands and Iceland. During the trip guests will be hosted by a number of awarded Nordic chefs throughout the region, from Stockholm, Sweden to Torshavn on the Faroe Islands. In fact, the whole trip is put together by a team of local, influential and sometimes famous chefs which the guests will meet, share the kitchen and talk and eat food with.
“This is an entirely different type of itinerary as the destinations have been hand-picked by local chefs, all of them influential and some of them quite famous”, says Karen Ridge, owner of Food and Wine Travel. Highlight for many will be a visit to Brimiland, a culinary wonderland, owned and operated by one of Norways celebrity chefs Arne Brimi. He has built a unique gourmet and adventure village around the area of Lom in Norway. Participation is key here and vacationers are encouraged to get in amongst it. Arne Brimi himself will open his exquisite mountain eatery Vianvang for an unforgettable Norwegian palatal sensation of rich game delicacies.
The tour concludes with an opulent meal in Claus Meyer’s famous Noma restaurant. A fitting end as it was here that the new Nordic Cuisine movement was kick-started when he published his manifesto for the New Nordic Cuisine in 2004. Fast-forward 6 years and Scandinavia is now a sizzling hot culinary destination ready to be explored and tasted by the discerning Aussie traveller.
